Kenya: I dreamed of Africa, the morning after

One quick post about Kenya. Quick, because my coming home is turning out to be very busy, and because most of our trip can better be illustrated by the pictures we posted. Animal lovers, knock yourselves out and get those views up!

The first impression I got of Kenya was that it’s the most developed African country I’ve even been to. Downtown Nairobi is urban, active and filled with skyscrapers and businessmen. Crime rates are high, but we were really careful and didn’t have any problem. Aaron is in Iran and I am now back in France. It’s odd to be writing about Rwanda while just getting rehabituated to the comforts of home, but the place made enough of an impression on me that I can effortlessly immerse myself in my memories for a second, and draw the essence of the experience back to the surface. Rwanda

We’re now in Kigali, Rwanda. Should be on the road soon to visit the country. We are getting a lot of help from a local friend of David Ofumbi, our Ugandan friend. May not be a blog on the specifics of Rwanda and Kenya till Anne-Sophie gets back to France on the 24th. Those in France, please contact her to let her know if you’ll be around. I will be going to Iran on the 24th however as to not waste the visa I finally received and return to France on August 2nd. Then you’ll hear about that trip when I get back.

The Historical Route

We’re back in Addis Ababa after 10 days of travel throughout the north of the country. The south of Ethiopia is known more for its wildlife, mainly birds, and some of the most unique tribes in the world, such as the Mursi tribe that stretch their lips or ones that decorate their bodies with scarification and paint. The north is known for its historical attractions, and so with our limited time we decided to stick to the historical route. It’s about a 2700 km journey. Below is a map. I’ll try to recap some of things we experienced. For photos click here. (more…)
